Replacing the successful Hyundai Accent and
putting its marquee on smaller type vehicle Hyundai released the Elantra
in 2004. This middle class vehicle came fitted with most essentials in
today's driving standards. It is hoped that 2009 and Hyundai Korea will
grace its range with the Elantra Hybrid LPG.
No mention yet of actual fuel consumption but expect it to be in the
vicinity of 5 ltrs /100km..
The significant point here is going to be affordability and this
might just be the vehicle to grab the market for what has been reported
as approx $30,000.
Understand with hybrid vehicles engine sizes and power is reduced in
this case Hyundai have been experimenting for the previous 12 months
with a 1.6 LPG engine supplemented with a 15 kW electric Motor. Its
state of the art in stop/start tech with the continuously variable
transmission (CTV) and on board energy harvesting with regenerative
braking.
With rising fuel prices 2009 seems to be so far but to put salt into
the wound Hyundai may not be ready until 2012 to make a impact into
larger markets. As production increases and improves pricing for these
vehicle must improve also.
Hats off to Hyundai for this Elantra hybrid.
